To this day, Georg Trakl (born in Salzburg in 1887), the centenary of whose death is inextricably linked to the outbreak of the First World War in Europe, is considered one of the most important poets of the German-speaking region. The intensive engagement with the era, oeuvre and biography of this author provided the students with a basis for developing contemporary sculptural works with out illustrating the expressive imagery of Trakl’s poetry in their output. Techniques, formats and materials were selected by the young artists in keeping with their projects. Moreover, the students were free to decide whether their approach to Georg Trakl was to reflect on a single poem, an entire poetry cycle, a specific method of writing or events in the poet’s biography.
