Das Institut für Medien bietet in einem transdisziplinären Lehr- und Forschungskon text zwei künstlerische Bachelorstudien und fünf Masterstudien an: die Bachelorstudien Grafik-Design und Fotografie und Zeitbasierte und Interaktive Medien sowie die Masterstudien Interface Cultures, Medienkultur- und Kunsttheorien (institutsübergreifend), Visuelle Kommunikation (Grafikdesign & Fotografie), Zeitbasierte Medien und Webwissenschaften (interuniversitär). In allen Studienbereichen wird den Studierenden ein kreativer und reflektierter Zugang zu Medienkultur, Intermedialität, Netzkulturen und künstlerisch-wissenschaftlicher Forschungspraxis eröffnet. Der Bezug auf Medien-, Kultur- und Kunstgeschichte fördert einen eigenständigen Umgang mit visuellen, auditiven und multisensorischen Ausdrucksformen, Produktions und Präsentationsverfahren. Das Institut kooperiert mit anderen universitären und außeruniversitären PartnerInnen wie der Ars Electronica, dem Crossing Europe Filmfestival, dem Lentos Kunstmuseum, dem Linzer community-TV dorf und der Medienwerkstatt Wien. In Zusammenarbeit mit diesen Partnerinstitutionen werden künstlerische und wissenschaftliche Projekte in den Bereichen Interaktivität/Web, Grafik- und Kommunikationsdesign, analoge und digitale Fotografie, Film / Video, Gender- und Medientheorien und zeitbasierte Kunst durchgeführt. As a transdisciplinary teaching and research hub, the Institute for Media Studies offers two art-oriented bachelor programmes and five master programmes, i.e. the bachelor curricula Graphic Design and Photography and Time-based and Inter- active Media and the master curricula Interface Cultures, Media Culture and Art Theory (cross-institutional), Websciences (in cooperation with JKU), Visual Communication and Time-based Media. Throughout all aspects of the programme, students are offered creative, reflected access to media culture, intermediality and the practicalities of artistic-scientific research. References to media history and cultural and political processes foster independent approaches to visual, audio and multi-sensory forms and methods of expression, production and presentation. The Institute co-operates with partners both within and outside the university con- text, such as Ars Electronica, the Crossing Europe Film Festival, the Lentos Museum of Art, the regional TV station dorf or Medienwerkstatt Wien. Together with these partner institutions, we implement artistic and scientific projects in the fields of interactivity/ web, graphic and communications design, analog and digital photography, film/video, gender and media theories as well as time-based art.
