Mit viel Engagement und Zusammenhalt ist es einem eingespielten Team von Lehr- enden und Studierenden innerhalb weniger Jahre gelungen, einen viel geachteten Platz im Feld der österreichischen Architekturausbildung einzunehmen. Dazu wurden die spezifischen Bedingungen – persönlicher Kontakt, optimale räumliche Voraus set- zungen, unbürokratische Abläufe – in höchstem Maße genutzt. Im Architekturstudium an der Kunstuniversität Linz werden sehr eigenständige Ak- zente gesetzt, ohne dabei die für ein Bachelorstudium wichtige Grundlehre zu ver- nachlässigen. Konkrete künstlerische Intervention und gesellschaftliche Verantwor- tung gehören eng zusammen. Ein hoher formaler Anspruch ist auch an inhaltliche Po si- tionen geknüpft. Neben der architekturspezifischen Qualifizierung im Umgang mit Funktion, Raum und Körper, Konstruktion, Proportion, Atmosphäre, Form, Farbe, Stadt und Stadtumraum werden auch der Aufgabenanalyse, der Zieldefinition und der Gestaltung von Arbeitsprozessen große Beachtung geschenkt. Eine zentrale Idee ist die enge Verschränkung von Kunst, Technik und Theorie mit Entwurfsprojekten, die in integrierten Praxiseinheiten mitunter auch realisiert werden. Die Folge sind vielfach publizierte Bauten in Afrika und Asien und die Sicherheit der Studierenden, etwas bewegen zu können und die eigene Kraft zu mobilisieren. Through firm commitment and co-operation, a well-honed team of teachers and students has succeeded, over only a few years, to assume a highly respected position in the field of architectural training in Austria. Towards this purpose, full use was made of the specific characteristics of the location–personal contact, optimum spatial conditions, unbureaucratic procedures. The architecture curriculum of Kunstuniversität Linz sets its very own, unique accents without neglecting the communication of basic skills essential for a bachelor course. Concrete artistic intervention and social responsibility are closely interlinked. High formal standards go hand in hand with the willingness to take ethical positions. In addition to conveying skills specific to architecture, such as dealing with function, space and bodies in space, structural design, proportion, atmosphere, form, colour, the city and urban space intense, attention is paid to the analysis of tasks,the definition of objectives and the design of work processes. One central idea behind the programme lies in the twinning of art, technology and theory with concrete design projects that are often implemented in the context of integrated practical stints. The twofold outcome takes the form of widely published construction projects in Africa and Asia as well as the students’ certainty to be able to bring about change and come into their own as architects.
