Das Masterstudium der Architektur qualifiziert für die klassischen und die neuen Tätigkeitsfelder innerhalb der Architektur, für die zentrale ArchitektInnenleistung, die Stadtforschung bis zur Stadtplanung und die Gestaltung ländlicher Räume, den Architekturjournalismus und das Architekturmanagement. Neben einer Vertiefung des Grundlagenwissens wird der Fokus auf komplexe Systeme und die Stadt erweitert. Das Studium bietet darüber hinaus ein international unvergleichliches Topangebot zu Fragen der Nachhaltigkeit (Ökologie, Solarbau) und des Bauens in Entwicklungsländern sowie modernster Holzbautechnologie. Dafür gelten anspruchsvolle Krite- rien ökonomischer und sozialer Verträglichkeit. Bei aller inhaltlicher, auch gesellschaftspolitisch verantwortungsvoller Ausrichtung, werden die Aspekte der Ästhetik und der Gestaltung immer hoch gehalten und dem Entstehungsprozess ähnliche Aufmerksamkeit zuteil wie den Ergebnissen. Die Arbeit in den Ateliers, in frei zu wählenden Themen und Gruppenzusammensetzungen, kommt individuellen Interessen und Schwerpunktsetzungen von Masterstudierenden optimal entgegen. Die „persönliche Profilbildung“ wird durch eine individuelle Betreuung, die Kleinheit der Institution und das Studienangebot der gesamten Universität unterstützt. The master course Architecture trains students for all career options in the field of architecture–both traditional and novel–and ranges from classic architectural tasks or urban research to urban and rural planning, architectural journalism and architecture management. In addition to deepening the students’ knowledge base, the focus widens in this programme to include complex systems and cities in their entirety. Moreover, the curriculum imparts top-level knowledge of unrivalled international standing in such areas as sustainability (ecology, solar architecture), architecture in developing countries as well as wood and timber construction, to which ambitious criteria of economic and social accountability are applied. While observing a high standard of thematic and socio-political responsibility, the aspects of aesthetics and design are given pride of place at any time; likewise, the creative process is paid as much attention as the physical outcome. Working in studios on freely chosen topics within individually composed groups responds optimally to the personal interests and focuses of master students. The formation of a “personal profile” is fostered by individual tutoring, the small size of the department and the programme range of the University as a whole.
