6 UNIVERSITÄT | UNIVERSITY !ZUM STUDIUM !ON STUDYING In den nächsten Jahren wird die Kunstuniversität Linz im wörtlichen Sinn zur Baustelle: Die Adaptierung der Brückenkopfgebäude an der Donau sowie des „K2“ am Standort Kollegiumgasse wird endlich die räumliche Zusammenführung der Uni im Herzen der Stadt bringen. Da mit kön nen viele Syner gien – vor allem auf der Ebene der Ko m mu nikation, des krea tiven Austausches zwischen den Stu dien richtun gen und natürlich auch lo gis tisch – freige setzt wer den. Für die Stadt bedeutet die ses Projekt eine enorme Aufwertung und Belebung ihres Zen trums. Selbstverständlich werden wir bemüht sein, den Studienbetrieb trotz der Um bauarbeiten möglichst ungestört weiter zu führen. Was die inhaltliche Positionierung der Kunst universität, ihre Profilsäulen, ihre vielfach exzellenten Studienangebote, ihre aufstrebenden Leistungen in der (künstlerischen) Forschung, und nicht zu letzt ihre besonders kreative und fa mi liäre Atmosphäre betrifft, so ist der Baustellen-Status endgültig über wun den. Selbstverständlich sind für eine derart offene, wache, in die Zukunft orien tierte und mit dem gesellschaftlichen Umfeld eng verbundene Institution laufend Überprüfungen und Korrekturen notwendig. Aber nach einer Dekade der inneren Reformen und Umorganisationen gibt es jetzt ein starkes, tragfähiges Fundament, auf dem weitergebaut werden kann. Auf zwei neue Bausteine möchte ich besonders hinweisen. Das früher an die Modeschule Hetzendorf in Wien angedockte Bachelorstudium Mode wird nach Linz Over the next few years, Kunstuniversität Linz will quite literally become a construction site: the adaptation of the bridgehead buildings on the Danube and of the “K2” edifice in the Kollegiumgasse location will finally entail a physical unification of the University at the heart of the city. This will release a wealth of synergies–above all at the level of communication, of creative exchange between the various curricula and, of course, also of teaching logistics. For the city centre, the project generates an enormous degree of upgrading and vitalisation. We will most certainly do our utmost to continue the University’s activities as smoothly as possible despite the refurbishment works. With respect to the thematic positioning of the University of Art and Design Linz, its profile pillars, its manifold excellent study programmes, its ambitious achievements in the field of (artistic) research and, last but not least, its particular atmosphere– both creative and informally casual–,the construction site status definitely on longer applies. It goes without saying that an institution as open, aware, future-oriented and closely linked to the social environment it is embedded in requires an ongoing regime of evaluations and corrections. But after a full decade of internal reforms and reorganisation efforts, we may now rely on a strong and sustainable basis to build on in times to come.
