EXTRA Uni was no extravagance, EXTRA Uni was … … an utopian idea of a public education in the arts for the duration of one semester, putting itself and the mechanisms of a media arts study course on display and thus also up for discussion. The commitment the concept was executed with can be measured by the fact that for the 2014/15 winter semester the entire branch of study for time-based media at the University of Arts Linz relocated to OK, including ateliers, offices, kitchen, studios, all the students, teachers, staff and dog. The hermetic system that is art university was, at least temporarily, given access to for interested people, visitors and guest students, which also meant keeping the new premises open from 09:00 to 24:00. The workspaces thus became places that could be visited but also used, the office was a communication hub and orientation guide for guest students joining in the seminar and lecture activities. The student workspaces, all the guest lectures, usually internal artistic events and their discussions were open to the public, an announcement board at the foyer of OK explicitly inviting to visit the "Art Studies Exhibition" with a weekly changing schedule. extraunilinz.wordpress.com
