It fills me with great joy that my position as Chair of the University Council of the University of Art and Design Linz (Kunstuniversität Linz) has already for several years provided me with the possibility of learning more about the University and its numerous artistic activities. The orientation of Kunstuniversität Linz in the fields of media and design is unique in Austria, which finds its reflection in the artistic output of both the internationally distinguished teaching staff and the students. Moreover, the intensive construction efforts of the past two years have created—and still are creating—new spaces for lectures, research and studio work: After converting and developing the top storeys of the postal building, the University now disposes of two more premises; the eastern bridgehead building has been under refurbishment already for one year and is being adapted for the requirements of Kunstuniversität Linz according to plans by architect Adolf Krischanitz, the winner of the architectural competition. The FAT–Fashion & Technology–programme occupies the grounds of the former tobacco factory; the first, outstanding results have found prominent echo in the media. The University Council would like to congratulate Rector Reinhard Kannonier most cordially on his unanimous election by the University Council and Senate for another term of office. Moreover, our congratulations go to the newly elected Director of IFK, professor Thomas Macho. As always, we are looking forward to intensive contacts and good co-operation. I want to wish Kunstuniversität Linz continuing great success in implementing its highly ambitious plans for the future.
