Die Abteilung Kunstgeschichte und Kunsttheorie der Kunstuniversität Linz bietet Vorlesungen, Seminare, Workshops und Exkursionen für Studierende aller Studienrichtungen an. Zur Förderung des Diskurses über Kunst und Kunsttheorie, den Kunstbetrieb, visuelle Kulturen und Bildpolitiken werden kulturwissenschaftliche Perspektiven und transdisziplinäre Methoden vermittelt. Ziel ist die gemeinsame Erarbeitung einer Argumentationskompetenz in der Konzeption, Realisierung und Reflektion von Kunst. Im Sinne der Profilbildung der Kunstuniversität Linz sind die Schwerpunkte Gender Studies und kuratorische Praxis Alleinstellungsmerkmale im österreichischen Aus- bildungsangebot. Der Bereich „Gender Studies“ beschäftigt sich als elementare Kategorie jeder Kunst-, Kultur- und Medientheorie mit Themenkomplexen wie Ethnizität, Territorium, Religion, Alter, sexuelle Orientierung, soziale Zugehörigkeit, u. a. m. Mit dem Schwerpunkt „kuratorische Praxis“ bietet die Kunstuniversität Linz ein neues Forschungs- und Lehrmodell an, das unterschiedliche Rezeptionsansätze und -kontexte von künstlerischen Projekten auf ihre zeitliche Signifikanz überprüft. Das Fach Kunstgeschichte und Kunsttheorie ist integrierter Bestandteil des wissenschaftlichen Masterstudiums Medienkultur- und Kunsttheorien. The Department of Art History and Art Theory at Kunstuniversität Linz offers lectures, seminars, workshops and excursions conceived for students of all curricula. The discourse on art and art theory, the art industry, visual cultures and visual politics is promoted through cultural-scientific perspectives and transdisciplinary methods. The aim lies in the joint development of argumentation skills for conceiving, implementing and reflecting on art. Typical of the unique profile of Kunstuniversität Linz, the Gender Studies and Curatorship focuses are a “USP” among Austrian institutions of higher learning. As an elementary category of any form of art, culture or media theory, gender studies address thematic clusters such as ethnicity, territory, religion, age, sexual orientation, social background and many others. With the Curatorship focus, Kunstuniversität Linz proposes a novel research and teaching model that evaluates the approaches and contexts in which artistic projects are received and responded to for their significance over time. The Art History and Art Theory curriculum is an integral part of the scientific Master programme Media Culture and Art Theories.
